There is increasing recognition around the world of the importance of Early Childhood Care and Development (ECCD). Research conclusively shows that early childhood is a period of extraordinary brain development that is heavily shaped and sculpted by experiences and the environment

The AWWs play a pivotal role in the ICDS scheme and have a wide range of responsibilities including running the centres, enrolment, organising immunisation sessions, making home visits to pregnant mothers, and conducting the pre-school education activities.

BMRF field staff provide daily support to the AWWs by demonstrating and conducting educational and learning activities with the children at the Anganwadi centres.

Home visiting is a central element of the project aimed at supporting and enabling parents to promote their children’s optimal learning and development.

The popular proverb, “it takes a village to raise a child” highlights the fact that the whole community has an essential role to play in the growth and development of its children.

All Anganwadi centres have been closed since March 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic. This led to a significant project realignment to ensure that children continued to receive the necessary inputs needed for their optimal learning and development.
